# Add hillshading

This example adds raster hillshading to a map by adding the [Mapbox Terrain-DEM](https://docs.mapbox.com/help/getting-started/mapbox-data/#mapbox-terrain-dem) raster tileset as a [`raster-dem` source](https://docs.mapbox.com/style-spec/reference/sources/#raster-dem) with a [`hillshade` layer](https://docs.mapbox.com/style-spec/reference/layers/#hillshade).
