Migrating to the modern Static Images API

If you are using a Studio classic style template or a custom classic style and need to migrate to the modern Static Images API, follow the guidance on this page. There are many benefits to migrating, including:

Studio classic style templates

How to tell if your current implementation uses a Mapbox-designed classic style

Check your stats page to see which tileset IDs are being used by your account:

  1. Log into Mapbox and go to your Statistics page.
  2. Find the Raster Tiles API section.
  3. Toggle the tileset_id option from the dropdown menu.

There you will see all the tileset IDs for both classic styles and raster tilesets (for example, imagery) used by your account. All Mapbox-designed classic styles will be deprecated, including but not limited to:

  • mapbox.streets
  • mapbox.light
  • mapbox.dark
  • mapbox.streets-satellite
  • mapbox.outdoors
  • mapbox.run-bike-hike
  • mapbox.streets-basic
  • mapbox.wheatpaste
  • mapbox.comic
  • mapbox.pencil
  • mapbox.pirates
  • mapbox.emerald
  • mapbox.high-contrast

Migrating studio classic style template

If you are using a Studio Classic template style (for example, mapbox.outdoors), use the modern equivalent template style with the Mapbox Static Images API.

curl "https://api.mapbox.com/styles/v1/mapbox/outdoors-v11/static/-115.84178,37.21776,12/500x500@2x?access_token=YOUR_MAPBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN"

Custom classic styles

How to tell if your current implementation uses a custom classic style

You can see a list of custom classic styles (created in Studio Classic) and classic projects (created in Mapbox Editor) associated with your account here: https://studio.mapbox.com/classic/.

To determine if you are actively using any of your custom classic style, check your stats page to see which tileset IDs are being used by your account:

  1. Log into Mapbox and go to your Statistics page.
  2. Find the Legacy Static Images API section.
  3. Toggle the tileset_id option from the dropdown menu.

All these styles and projects will be deprecated. If you know the style in this list is actively being used in your application, you will need to create a new custom style with Mapbox Studio.

Migrating custom classic styles using legacy Static Images API

If you are using the Legacy Static Images API with a custom classic style that you created in Mapbox Studio Classic, you will need to create a new custom style with Mapbox Studio so you can use your custom style ID with the Mapbox Static Images API.

curl "https://api.mapbox.com/styles/v1/{account}/{custom-style-id}/static/-115.84178,37.21776,12/500x500@2x?access_token=YOUR_MAPBOX_ACCESS_TOKEN"
