Report an error from a map, search, route, geocoding result, etc.

There are several ways to report issues with Mapbox data, depending on the type of issue you're experiencing. The primary method for reporting map and search data issues is through our Contribute app.

Reporting changes for points of interest (POIs)​

This section will show you how to report changes to points of interest (POIs) on a Mapbox map.

POI changes are different from address changes

Point of interest changes are different than address changes. If you would like to change information about a specific address, see the Reporting changes for an address or building section.

Update an existing point of interest​

To update the information on an existing point of interest (POI), such as a business, park, airport, etc:

  1. Locate the POI on the map by panning and zooming until it is in view, or by using the search input.
  2. Once the POI is in view, click on the name to select it.
    • The map will pan to the POI and a menu on the left side of the screen will appear.
    • Note: If you click on the building and not the POI label, you will bring up the address of the building and not the POI itself.
  3. In the menu that appears, select Suggest an edit.
  4. Fill out the menu that appears and submit with your email.
    • You can suggest changes to the name, address, category, etc.
    • Make sure to include your email. This will allow Mapbox to update you on the status of your feedback.

Remove a point of interest​

To remove a point of interest (POI) that appears on the map but no longer exists:

  1. Locate the POI on the map by panning and zooming until it is in view, or by using the search input.
  2. Select the name of the POI that appears on the map.
    • Note: If you click on the building and not the POI label, you will bring up the address of the building and not the POI itself.
  3. Select Close or remove.
  4. Specify why the POI should be removed:
    • Select Permanently Closed if the business doesn’t work anymore.
    • Select Doesn’t exist here if a POI has never existed at this location.
    • Select Other for more specific use case that requires more detail.
  5. Fill out the menu that appears and submit with your email.
    • Make sure to include your email. This will allow Mapbox to update you on the status of your feedback.

Add a missing point of interest​

To add the information on a missing point of interest (POI), such as a business, park, airport, etc:

  1. Pan and zoom the map so that the area where you would like to add a POI is in view.
  2. Press the Contribute button or long click the map at the location of the new POI.
  3. In the menu that appears, select Point of Interest/Business button
  4. You can submit the name, address, category, etc.
  5. Make sure to include your email. Mapbox will send notifications about the status of your new POI.

Reporting changes for an address or building​

This section will show you how to report changes to the addresses or buildings on a Mapbox map.

Address changes are different from point of interest changes

Address changes are different than changing a point of interest (POI). If you would like to change information about a specific POI, see the Reporting changes for Point Of Interests (POIs) section.

Update an existing address​

To update the information on an existing address, such as fixing the street number, street name, city, etc:

  1. Locate the POI on the map by panning and zooming until it is in view, or by using the search input.
  2. Once found, click on the building to select the address.
    • The map will pan to the address and a menu on the left side of the screen will appear.
    • Note: If you click on a POI label and not the building, you will bring up the POI not the address itself.
  3. In the menu that appears, select Suggest an edit.
  4. Fill out the menu that appears and submit with your email.
    • You can suggest changes to the name, address, category, etc.
    • Make sure to include an email address so Mapbox can send you notifications on the status of your requested change.

Add a missing address​

To add the information on a missing address:

  1. Locate where the address should be on the map by panning the globe.
  2. Press the Contribute button or long click the map at the location of the new POI.
  3. In the menu that appears, select the Address button
  4. You can suggest changes to the name, address, category, etc.
  5. Make sure to include an email address so Mapbox can send you notifications on the status of your requested change.

Report Map and Search Data Issues​

To report issues with Mapbox data, use our Contribute app.

Address
Report a change of address of a building.
Business
Report a change to a business. The options to change include: business name, address, industry category, phone number or website.
Road
Report a change to a road. The options to change include: road name, speed limit, access restrictions such as a private road and toggle for if the road is a one way.
Road
Report a speed limit change to a part of a road.
Incident
Report an incident or road closure. The options to report include: congestion, construction, disable vehicle, lane restriction, mass transit, other news, planned event, road closure, road hazard, weather or miscellaneous reports. For each of these types of reports you can include a start and end date and if the issue is a permanent closure.
Clearance
Report a clearance restriction. The options to report include: height, weight, length, width. This is helpful to inform larger vehicles if they can travel through certain areas or not.
Specify the location of your issue

Make sure to long press on the map to bring up a draggable red marker before clicking the Contribute button, allowing you to specify the location to associate with your report.

Once on the Contribute app, you can suggest improvements by following these steps:

  1. Long press where on the map you'd like to make a change.
  2. Select the relevant category to your issue as seen in the list below.
  3. Fill out the required information in the form that appears, including any relevant proof.
    • To help with submitting contributions, we recommend including photos, links, comments, etc., to help us verify the legitimacy of contributions.
  4. If you'd like to be notified of updates on this issue, make sure above the submit button, the check the Notify me when my issue has been resolved check box.
  5. Click the Submit button to submit your suggestions.
    • Make sure to include an email address so Mapbox can send you notifications on the status of your requested change.
Accessing the Contribute tool through a Mapbox Map

A link to the Contribute page is available on all Mapbox Maps by clicking the Improve this map link. You can recommend that your end users use this link if they would like to report a data issue.

Report Navigation Issues​

Navigation issues can be reported in two different ways:

If there are issues with a roads, speed limits, incidents or clearance, report issues as follows:

  1. Go to the Improve this Map tool.
  2. Locate the segment of the road on the map.
  3. Press Contribute button or long press on the needed location.
  4. Select Road, Speed Limit, Incident or Clearance and fill out the form with the needed information.
  5. Make sure to include an email address so Mapbox can send you notifications on the status of your requested change.

For all other reports, go to the Directions API Playground, generate the route you experienced the issue on and then clicking the purple Send feedback about this route button to report what you experienced.
